I use a 1982 Bronica SQ-A medium format camera to make the photographs I exhibit and
sell today.  This camera produces exceptional negatives measuring 2.25" square.  I use
Ilford Pan F Plus 50 speed or Kodak Tmax 100 black and white film to achieve extremely
fine grained enlargements.  Most frequently, I use the Bronica 40mm PS lens; which
gives a wide angle in the field of view.  I also use Bronica 80mm, 150mm, and 250mm
PS lenses.  For precise metering, I take advantage of the Minolta Spotmeter M.

Tiffen green, yellow #15, and haze filters are utilized quite often.  The green filter is very
useful to lighten green objects (such and foliage or grass) against a dark subject.  See
Plow - County Clare, Ireland for an example.  For this image, I needed the plow to stand
out from the dark green grass and weeds - the green filter did just the job.  The yellow
#15 filter is crucial for darkening blue in the sky when very distinct clouds are desired.
See
Surf and Rocks - Doolin, Ireland for a nice example.

For the developing process, I use
Kodak Tmax film developer, Kodak Indicator stop bath,
and Ilford Rapid Fixer.  The Tmax and Pan F Plus combination produces a fantastic
range of darks and lights, and everything in between.  One can obtain rich Zone 3
shadows and detailed Zone 8 highlights - even when pushed two stops.  See
Cathedral
Street #3 for a fine example.

I believe finding and composing subject matter to photograph, and taking the image are
only half the fun.  The darkroom printing process is the other half.  I have a late 1960's
Omega B22 enlarger with a standard condenser head and a
Rodenstock 90mm lens.  I
print only on Ilford Multigrade double weight glossy fiber paper.  I use Ilford Multigrade
developer mixed 1:14 for the development process.  Kodak Indicator stop bath is next,
followed by Ilford Rapid Fixer and Ilford Washaid.  Each print is toned for archival
purposes using Kodak Rapid Selenium toner.

After drying, I may spot unwanted marks on the prints using Spotone then each print is
titled, signed, numbered, and dated.  I mat using a
Logan mat cutter and Rising White
archival acid-free materials.
