ARTIST STATEMENT
Fine art photographer and instructor David Ashman was born and
raised in Rochester, New York USA and currently resides in Annapolis,
Maryland. He captures images of abstraction, life, uninhabited
landscapes, abandoned property, international historic elements,
unique portraits, and interior architectural detail exclusively on black
and white film using a vintage medium format camera. His work is
available for sale or licensing.
“I believe that the viewer is prone to enhanced interpretation of an
image or story in a photograph with the absence of color. I enjoy
making photographs that speak to the viewer by capturing detail that
otherwise may go unnoticed.”
David has studied with master photographers Mary Virginia Swanson,
John Sexton, Chip Forelli, Tom Wolff, and Dick Bond. His hand crafted
black and white prints are part of numerous private and public
collections including the District of Columbia Art Bank. He has
exhibited at various solo & juried exhibitions, and has received
numerous awards.
